Do You Want To Do Great Work? (Then Put Your A** Where Your Heart Wants To Be.)

A great mantra for life.

The War Of Art.

I'm a big fan of Steven Pressfield, author of such classics as The War of Art, Do The Work, Turning Pro, Nobody Wants To Read Your Sh*t, and many, many more.

In case you aren't familiar with Steve (and you haven't already figured it out from his titles) Steve writes about the creative process.

His most famous creation is: Resistance, the force that prevents you from getting your work done.

Whether an article, a painting, a business, or a phone call–resistance is the things that stands between you and your dreams.

Show Up.

All of Steve's books are variations on a theme: when you show up, you overcome resistance.

Steve is a major reason why I was able to generate 1M+ impressions on LinkedIn and why I'm currently writing my 76th blog post for Knowaholic.

His method works.

Move Your A** To Where It Needs To Be.

His latest book starts with an absolute BEAST of a call to action.

Steve says that whatever it is you need to do, you need to go to where that work is being done.

What do we mean by "ass"? In the first-level interpretation, the word means body. Our physical presence. When we say, "Put your ass where your heart wants to be," we mean station your physical body in the spot where your dream-work will and must happen.

In other words: If you want to dance, get to the studio.

If you want to write, sit at the computer.

If you want to paint, get out your easel

Do you want to be a comic? Move to a comedy mecca.

Do you want to be in tech? Move to the city.

Do you want to study a language? Spend a year in that country. (Pandemic permitting of course.)

Your Turn.

  • What do you want to be doing?
  • What is your big dream or goal?
  • Where do you need to be to make it happen?
  • What excuses are you allowing yourself to accept?
  • What action can you take now to move closer to it?

It's really that simple. Thanks again, Steve.
